The first impression of new curtains

Last week, we received the fabric for the new curtains and on Saturday, I started cutting and sewing. On Sunday, we tried the first one for the cabin hatch - and it fitted well and looks good! There are 10 more pieces to be done so I will be working with them later on. I think this first piece looks surprisingly good, since it was sewed by someone who had not used a sewing machine in years...

  1. Well done! I guess using sewingmachine is like riding a bike...

  2. The last time I used a sewing machine was in primary school.... I'm very encouraged and inspired by your DIY sewing. I'd love to have a go at making the boat cushion covers and curtains etc for our little boat. Do you use a more industrial machine as the fabrics are usually heavier? And if yes I'm wondering whether I should reaquaint myself with a standard sewing machine first?!

  3. Thank you all!

Merenneito, I agree, I remembered quite well how one can sew even though the last time using the machine was a long time ago!

Charley, thanks! DIY went well, at least so far - I have the rest of the pieces to be done still! I used just a standard sewing machine (that I borrowed...) and had no problems. The fabric was actually not that much heavier, but since it is synthetic, it can be used onboard very well. We are still planning to buy those new cushion covers I wrote about, but on the other hand, it could be nice to sew those ones also :)
